Kindness, to be kind. You can begin small. I call them, small kinds.
A couple of months ago I was at the dentist. Yep, the dreaded dentist visit. The hygienist there was chatting with me and just jumped right into something I needed to hear:
“Take care of yourself. As a first time mom, especially…”
The hygienist, at the dentist office, giving me a life lesson. And let me tell you, I definitely needed to hear it!
“You have to take care of yourself, first,” she said.
Our children, family or our job can be our whole world… but we also need the nurturing, need the loving, need the tenderly care, as well.
We have to take care of ourselves… so we can take care of ourselves. And then, we can give of ourselves because we have been filled up.
My eyes began to water from her words, and also from the slight pain in my mouth — but mostly from her kindness.
To be kind. The small kinds, we all need them. Thankful for hers.
The other day, I saw something that immediately brightened my entire day.
One by one, every person that came through the door, while we were at the coffee shop, held the door open for the next… Every single person held the door open. And there were plenty of people coming and going while we were there.
Honestly, it was truly something incredible to see.
Each person, aware of the next, and holding their arm out for them. Each one, taking those few seconds to go, I see you. Seemingly something tiny, but small acts of kindness can make a big impact.
Also, it’s these little moments, these ‘small kinds,’ that can really make someone’s day — even your own.
My daughter’s favorite barista is moving away.
Who am I kidding, she’s also my favorite! She’s such a light!
My daughter always brings in a flower, from our place, into the coffee shop every morning we’re there and shows it to the staff.
Today, our fave barista, and just overall special woman, gave Olivia a paper flower arrangement. It was the most adorable, sweetest, thoughtful gesture and gift. It definitely lit up our morning and week!
We’ll miss her! And now we’ll have these ever-lasting flowers as a reminder of her kindness, that she’s shown, today and every day!
Spread some small kinds around. We all need them! And show yourself that same kindness. Take care of yourself…
Feel free to email, and share some small kinds you’ve witnessed, or were a part of, with me. I’d love to hear about them! 🙂
