And why the process over results mindset is key to long-term creative growth and enhancing your well-being! 🙂
Nowadays, it’s easy to think that success and fulfillment lies in achieving big goals fast. Our culture often glorifies hustle, speed, and visible achievements, so it’s easy to feel trapped in the chase for outcomes.
But what if the secret to sustained growth, creativity, and well-being lies in the process itself?
This week, I’m joined by Emily Harris, a well-being and movement coach, the founder of 7th & Here, and a dear friend of mine for (let’s just say) many years! Together, we explore why embracing a process over results mindset can transform your creative journey and foster authentic growth!
And it just might be the very thing that saves your long-term creative journey… and sanity! 🙂
The creative life isn’t linear. It’s full of pivots, pauses, shifts, and quiet breakthroughs. That’s why a process over results approach matters.
When we fixate on results, we risk losing sight of the present moment and our own values, which can lead to burnout, frustration, resistance, and even a loss of joy.
Emily shares from her own experience, and coaching practice, how shifting the focus to how you work and why you’re doing it, creates space for resilience, sustainability and clarity. This mindset invites you to slow down, tune into your body, and trust that small, consistent steps — aligned with your core values — will add up to meaningful progress.
“(If I) focus on the actions of today and the seven days in front of me, I can make sure that I’m building something that can last. I’m adjusting and iterating as I go, so that it stays authentic to me as I evolve. And (making sure) that it’s somewhere that I can actually sustain by the time I get there.” – Emily Harris (7th & Here)
One of the standout insights from the episode is the power of physical movement — walking and even dancing — as a tool for mental clarity and creative inspiration. Emily’s background in dance laid the foundation for her coaching philosophy, linking body awareness with emotional and cognitive growth.
Whether you’re stuck in a mental block or searching for fresh ideas, movement can shift your perspective and unblock energy. Emily encourages listeners to embrace walking as a ritual to clear mental clutter and spark new connections.
Another essential theme is the importance of goal setting. Goals can sometimes feel overwhelming or discouraging if they seem out of reach or disconnected from what truly matters to you.
Emily guides us through the idea of breaking big goals into manageable, value-driven actions that feel achievable and motivating. Celebrating these small wins helps build momentum, reinforce positive habits, and deepen self-trust. This approach nurtures a growth mindset, where progress is measured by learning and adaptation, not perfection.
Ultimately, adopting a process-focused mindset is an act of self-compassion and trust. It reminds us that life is happening now, not ‘someday’ — and that the journey itself holds the joy, wisdom, and growth we seek.
“Movement is a momentum generator…” – Emily Harris
Take a 15 min walk outside! Let your mind wander, smell the fresh air, hopefully the sun is shining, and enjoy the walk!
Bonus! Celebrate one small step today. It matters. 🙂
