I know what you’re thinking — it’s just a new week with another list of to-dos, am I right? Or maybe you think, organizing takes too much time! The list of to-dos can seem endless. Scratch off one thing, just to write down yet another.
I’m a (fairly) new mom and I’m also in the nitty gritty of launching a business. I come from a background dealing in long hours and even, what seem like, longer days. I love the entertainment and tv making business, but I absolutely do not love the long (very long at times) hours.
So, in trying to set my business up for success, I’ve utilized plenty of planning and organizing tools to help plan out my days efficiently and put systems in place that are proactive. And one lesson that’s really stuck with me is naming The Big 3!
When I say The Big 3, I actually mean two different things. First, set up three mindsets to use to set your day and week up for success. And then, naming, organizing and breaking down your Big 3 tasks/goals that you must accomplish for each day.
Let’s take a look at this week’s mindset examples for staying organized and proactive.
The Mindsets:
1. Time Blocking: Set aside specific blocks of time during the week for both work and personal responsibilities. This helps prevent the feeling of chaos, streamlines the day, and ensures nothing is neglected (including your me time)!
2. Declutter Regularly: Keep both your workspace and home organized by decluttering at the end of each day or week. Invest in storage and get rid of unnecessary items to create an environment where you can think clearly.
3. Delegate and Outsource: Don’t hesitate to delegate tasks at work and at home. There needs to be balance, and give-and-take, for healthy personal relationships and work relationships. And in that spirit, sometimes you have to outsource tasks. It allows you to focus on high-priority items and maintain balance.
Naming The Big 3
Now, in the spirit of the Super Bowl this past Sunday, let’s set up a game plan for being proactive with our days by naming The Big 3.
When naming your Big 3, keep in mind what the most important tasks are and let those be the three things you list. Every day has its own goals and must-dos, but break each day down at the beginning of the week to name your big three for each day.
The Game Plan (three examples of how to implement your big 3):
1. Set Specific and Clear Goals: At the start of your day, identify the three most important tasks you need to complete. These should be specific and measurable. Instead of vague goals like “work on project,” write down “edit a draft of a chapter in my book.”
Make sure each one is aligned with your larger goals.
2. Prioritize and Time Block: Break down each task into smaller, actionable steps and prioritize them based on deadlines and importance. Use time-blocking to assign dedicated periods for each task, ensuring you focus on one priority at a time.
3. Daily Check-Ins and Review: At the beginning of each day, review your big 3 and make any adjustments based on shifting priorities. If a task isn’t completed, move it to the top of the list for the next day or week.
Following this game plan, you’ll be able to mark things off your list faster and with more focus.
